Blog by request

So, yesterday I was told by a frequent reader (I welcome and love fan mail), Ross, that he would like more frequent blogging. In an effort to keep all of our readers happy I told him I would comply with his request. Here's what happened in Cooper's world today.

Cooper had his second doctor's appointment this morning. It was a routine weigh-in. Cooper tipped the scales at 7lbs 14oz. If you are keeping track he gained 10oz since last week. The doctor is no longer concerned that he is not getting enough food. In fact, she told Aimee when asked about his eating habits that Cooper could afford to pass on a bottle here and there. In light of this morning's appointment we've started Cooper on a very rigorous diet. After a quick lunch we took Cooper on a nice long walk to see the sights in Harvard Square and for him to burn some of those unsightly calories.

Knowing Cooper needed a good workout we took out the "Big Wheel". Not the true name of the stroller but you should see the size of those wheels. Cooper's Uncle Ross enjoys taking his jeep off road in VT and I know he would be impressed with this stroller's capabilities. Needless to say, it rolled like a dream.

Cooper's week in review

Cooper had himself an extremely busy week plus. He took trips out to Concord to visit Grammy and Kimi, the mall to buy some fancy new clothes, his aunt and uncle's house to play with his cousins, and in between bebopping all over town he entertained friends in our apartment. I have to say that he is feeling very comfortable in his surroundings. Cooper could win an award in the baby category for day time sleeping. However, nighttime is a completely different story. We've found cooper to be a big eater. He takes after his dad in his desire to be a competitive eater. Little Kobayashi enjoys all his beverages during the day light hours. But, when the sun goes down watch out for your fingers and cover your ears when he is hungry (which is every hour). One would think he wears a Swatch and could teach other neighborhood babies how to tell time. When 60 minutes have passed he is not at all shy to report his hunger.

Other new developments besides his thirst to eat:
  • Cooper is learning to self-soothe. He has sucked his thumb on a few different occasions. His advanced dexterity has not come with out penalty. Check out the photo of his thumb sucking form.
  • He is becoming more acquainted with his fingers, hands, and legs. He's managed to squirm his way out of much of his clothing.
  • Peeing. During Cooper's first few days many people had asked us if we'd been peed on yet during a diaper change. Happily (and proudly) we were able to say no. That has all changed. I'm thinking about creating a new post just to report on all the places he has peed that do not included his diaper. But for now we will list here:
- On Aimee's shirt while at the doctor
- All over Grammy's carpet
- His portable changing pad
- The window curtains in his corner
- Himself, Aimee, and the boppy during a midnight feeding (this one is most impressive because he was wearing a diaper at the time)

See the city, see the zoo..

Well not the zoo, but the city. Cooper has been very busy these past few days. We took a trip out Natick to see some family. Cooper had a great time with his aunts, uncles, grandparents, and his big boy cousins. He really enjoyed his outfit that Micah put on him because there was not one piece of clothing that matched. Today was a really busy Monday for Cooper. He began the day with a bath (he was less than thrilled with this activity). Then he went for a stroll around Davis and Porter Squares. He actually went to Porter Square twice because his doctor said he should begin to take drops of liquid sunshine (sounds like a something you may find in the parking lot of a phish show, but it is just vitamin D). On his second return from Porter he thought about popping into his favorite townie bar on Mass Ave. for a quick drink but they were out of his beverage of choice and he knew the only person that would have it was mommy who was waiting for him at home. In between his walks around the city Cooper went to his first doctor's appointment. He was very well behaved at his first appointment despite peeing all over Aimee's shirt. The doctor said he's extremely cute (we already knew that) and quite healthy.

Check out his photo album.

The first 48

It has been a whirlwind for us. Aimee started feeling her contractions on Tuesday while at school. At the school day wore on the contractions increased in their intensity. It made it very hard for us to concentrate on teaching. We left school early and headed down to the doctor. Aimee's doctor told us that labor had definitely started but it was going to be a while and to head home. We drove across town back to Davis Square where we would time the contractions for the next 6 hours. Judging by Aimee's facial expressions each time a contraction came I could tell they were serious business. We returned to the hospital at about 9 PM when the contractions were coming fast and furious. Here are some pictures from our 48 hrs in the hospital.
