So I am just a bad blogger. I feel like I have begun most blogs with "it's been a long time". Now that summer is here and I no longer have to go to my personal hell which is also called my classroom maybe there will be more time for blogging. Maybe...
Cooper is a big boy and on the move independently. We need to get out of our apartment ASAP. He does his own type crawl thing. It is more like an army crawl but he gets around. And of course, he is attracted to everyplace in our apartment that he shouldn't be. His favorite spot is our wine/liquor rack. It's mine too but that can be a whole other blog. When he's on the move he's pulled in by the force of the bottles and likes to try to pull them off of the shelf. We have started to baby proof and look for a more suitable apartment.
What can Cooper do now?
Eats all sorts of solid foods with his 2 new bottom teeth. He loves turkey, chicken, fake cheese (remember he cannot have dairy), pork tips, and baby puffs.
Pulls himself up. Just the other day he did this for the first time from a sitting position. He used the couch as his crutch and was extremely pleased with himself.
Waves. Started out with just one hand while eating and now it's both. He loves to wave with his hands full of food but now will also wave to people when he is doing things other than eating.
Swim. He loves to swim. Might be his favorite activity. He's been a number of times to kiddie pools and sprinklers around the city and to real pools. He's not afraid. He loves to get right in and splash around. In the deeper pools he instinctively knows to kick and is not afraid to stick his face right into the water. He's still learning that you shouldn't drink the water.
**Little sidebar here. I was having a conversation with someone around Easter and this person was telling me that babies instinctively know how to tread water and will do so if you drop them in the water. Now having known lots of little ones and seen their swimming capabilities and even having taught a few how to swim during my camp days I had some serious doubts. But when I hear certain things likes this I need to try them out and just see for myself. For months I thought about this "baby treading water" business and really wanted to put it to the test. But I needed two things. A deep enough pool and the indomitable mind set to let go of a helpless baby in deep water. Well, yesterday with Aimee by my side we busted this myth. Just swimming with him I could tell that if I let go he would surely sink like stone. Well, John, I am pretty sure you read our blog. We let go of our baby in the pool and he DID NOT tread water. Now, I know this isn't a totally scientific test because we only had one test subject, but judging by the speed at which he sank and his love of the water one would have hypothesized that if any baby could tread water it would be Cooper. I invite more people to try this but have a feeling your results will be the same. I put this myth right up there with another more well known one that I just cannot mention on my blog for I do not want NASA knocking on my door.
